I cannot log into my wireless router

Netgear / Wpn284v3

Specs: Windows Vista
I have a Netgear model WPN824v3 and recently had to reset it back to default. The router works fine except when I bring my work laptop home and try to logon to the internet. Now my laptop will connect to the router but won't open the internet , I can log onto the VPN Server but cannot access the network. I have limited or no connectivity.

When I troubleshoot the problem I am told that I am connected to a network with default SSID Name and that it may not be configured with security. I assumed that I needed to log into my Wireless router and change the username and password so it wouldn't be default.. but... I when I try to login using the www.http//routerlogin.net or www.http//routerlogin.com I get taken to the netgear website not a popup login screen. I've also tried entering the ip addresses and and and they go nowhere.. nothing happens. I'm so frustrated I want to throw my wireless router out the window!
