|First, check your laptop for an on/off switch (for the wireless adapter) on the outside of the case. If there is one, and it's in the off position, you won't be able to enable the adapter via software.|
If you're switching from wired to wireless, I would recommend you disable the wired network interface when enabling the wireless to avoid giving poor Windows a headache. It's been my experience having both adapters enabled and connected will cause it to stop communicating properly on both.
It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
