ok i may sound stupid but hear goes.is there any way to set up a network from my buddies computer to mine. he lives about 5 miles away. i have pc-anywhere if that would help.? so we could play games without going through the internet.

Yep, but I would not use PCAnywhere, I would setup a VPN and you could use PPTP. One of you can be the PPTP Server and the other can be the client or one of you can go buy a DSL/Cable modem VPN router and the other can VPN into the router..

You can't run a physical connection just
between your 2 comps, but if you did set
up an ftp server you would find it just as
fast as going through the internet
because your friend would be the only
one able to log onto the server. Therefore
the least amount of traffic is connecting
you 2, compared to a free gaming server
like battlenet or cstrike servers where
everyone and anyone can connect.
