Specs: Windows XP, 2.ghz / 3.5mb
i have a home network which should be providing me with near to 85mbps but when i test the LAN Speed from my desktop to my NAS I get speeds of around 2.5 to 3mbps. I'm happy to invest more money if i get improvements but I'm not sure where the weak link is. Help much appreciated

from my NAS to Desktop the route looks something like this

Synology DS410j lAN connection 1000MBPS
configures as JBOD I cant remember the read write speed of disks

Solwise homeplug 1000mbps via mains to another of same

thompson TG585N router an ports 10/100BaseT so 100mbps

Solwise homeplug 85mbps via mains to another of same

Dell Vostro desktop

All cables are at least Type 5 so 100mbps

basically the 85mbps solwise should be my bottle neck, I don't expect the product to perform at 100% advertised spec but we are nowhere near that level.

i get over 15mbps with sped tests from from the desktop computer via the router so this indicates there is another bottleneck somewhere.

to clarify - the 15mbps are broadband speed tests

connect the nas directly to the pc via crossover cable and measure transfer rate for comparison.
