Hello, everyone, I have found this site on chance and I hope that you can help with my dilemma. I have a crossover cable, but do not know how to configure both my PC(XP) and Laptop(Vista) so that I can move files between them.

I'm sure this is a simple task, but it just arrived today and I'm still trying to get used to Vista.

Thank You in Advance.

Assuming that both computers have an RJ45 network socket just plug the cable into each computer.

Go to Netwrk configuration and configure one with an IP address of 192.1638.1.2. Mask 255.255.255.0 and the other with an IP adress of 192.168.1.3, same mask. You can ignore gateway address as that is only needed for Internet Access. That is usually the address of your router/modem and usualy has an address of 192.168.1.1

Install file and print sharing on both computers and they should start takling to each other. You should be able to access the remote computer through Network connections.

Once these settings are configured you may have to re-boot to make then effective.

Stuart
