anyone know a website that teaches you how to setup a wireless network using a linksys wireless-b broadband router model befw11s4 (step by step instruction)? I just got a wireless router and wireless adapter and wants to try out what wireless is all about. thanks

I have the same exact router in my home and can probably answer your questions but try here first:
http://www.linksys.com/support/support.asp?spid=68If you still have questions, send me an email.

I haven't install it yet, but tomorrow. So how does the my pc with the wireless nic talks to the router? do i have to enter the nic's mac address and save it to the router? say my friend brought in his wireless laptop with a wireless nic as well, do he have to configure anything to connect to the router? How can my router allow and disallow someone to connect to it? thanks.

Unfortunetly you are going to have to take the time to read the documentation on how to set all this up , the way you stop someone else from using your wireless lan is to set up WEP encryption 128 bit and use a specific SSID on the router , also setup mac address filtering for the machines that will be on your router/switch . You then have to go thru each wireless card and set up the same SSID that you used on the router , if don't set it up exactly as the router you will not get a connection . This is how the security works on wireless lans . WEP is actually pretty weak security but right now that is all most home wirelass routers are using , new much more secure protocols will probably be around in the next year or two . It's actually a good learning experience setting all this up so take your time . Just set up our whole home lan with Netgear equipment and it works great . Good luck ...
