Install the nic driver Install Tcp/ip protocol Configure the protocol to get autoassigned address. Use a patch cable to connect the isp modem and nic. Start up the computer and you should be autoassigned a ip address from the ISP. You can check this by going to a cmd prompt and typing ipconfig.

You can't use your RTL8139 modem to replace the SAGEM fast 800. The RTL8139 is for a dialup connection and the SAGEM is for DSL. You may have a NIC (network interface card) in your computer. That is where the DSL modem connects. Oops, yours is a USB only modem. Your going to find the problem with the SAGEM. If you have to replace it and your computer has a NIC, an ethernet connection is preferable. Some DSL modems have both.

Sorry, I was half wrong. The Realtech also makes an ethernet chip. Which makes the same problem. You will still need a DSL modem with an ethernet output.
