I would like to know how to serve an ftp from my computer when its behind a router. the IP a certain prog gives me is just the LAN one so its not very usefull. I want to be able to serve to people outside my LAN (which only has two pc's anyway).

The router is not the problem. Its your IP address. You have to have an IP address that is accessible to the internet. For that you have to BUY a public IP address. Call up your internet provider, they will be HAPPY to sell you one.

or you could just assign a static LAN IP address to the computer (use the one it has now, for example) and map ports 20 and 21 on the router to that IP address. The router's manual should explain how to do this.

Ok so what now would my IP adress be with the mapping done. The LAN one or the one assinged to the router by my ISP? neither seem to work.

well it would be neither actually... the unfortunate thing is I had this same problem. I used a program like IRC to find my dns and use that. you need to use the ip that for some reason is not listed on servu or g-ftp when u start it up. download irc go on dalnet for example and type /dns yournickhere. its a bitch and its easier to just get dyndns
