As far as physical setup goes:

Internet >> router >> switch >> clients

To create a "real" server you would need one server running a server operating system (like 2003/2008)

As far as creating a "server" with XP goes, basically, you'd create user accounts for everyone who will be connecting and then would add those accounts to the appropriate shares to give the users access to said shares.

setup goes as said above. What type of server are you talking about? If you are talking server03 you will need to crush one of the xp boxes and buy the server software and install it. Once you have installed you will have to setup AD (dcpromo from run) after you have setup AD you can now got to your xp boxes and join them to the domain. To do this you will want to use the admin account on the xp box. You will right click on my comp and click on props. There you will select the radial for the domain. You will now enter your domain, next it will bring up a username and pw field type in the username and pw from your domain admin account and bam you are done. You will not need to configure an IP due to the router giving you an IP add so leave it on obtain an ip auto.
