I have a bank of 5 static IP address' from the cable company...
xx.xx.xx.31-36I CURRENTLY have the 2wire 2701HG-S dsl modem set up for
Connection Type : Direct IP (DHCP or STATIC)
and have manually entered our information of
IP xx.xx.xx.31
mast 255.255.255.0
Gateway xx.xx.xx.1Then I have the ROUTER set up to
GET IP ADDRESS DYNAMICALLY FROM IPWhich is working great....
The DSL Modem give me the .31
The router give IP address' to all the computers 192.168.1.100-150
bla bla blaHOWEVER, Here is my problem....
I want to put a SECOND ROUTER ONLINE and utilize my second static IP, my xx.xx.xx.32
to have a completely isolated second network (just think of it as a second company,
or just take it for fact that I really do need to use that second static IP)So, I know I need to transfer the IP control to the ROUTER !!!
I KNOW that in the ROUTER, that I need to set it up as
"USE STATIC" and put the
IP xx.xx.xx.31
mast 255.255.255.0
Gateway xx.xx.xx.1
IN THE ROUTERBUT - - - WHAT DO I DO TO THE DSL MODEM
(how do I tell the DSL Modem, let the ROUTER ask for the IP address)
Options on the "2wire 2701HG-S" include:
Direct IP (DHCP or STATIC)
PPPoE
PPPoA or
Routed IPoAI think I want to switch the DSL MODEM to PPPoE
Is that right ????
I'm working in a business, and want to be as prepared as possible, and NOT
guess, and fumble around......Thanks for any assistance !

Update: Now that I think about it, PPPoE is NOT my answer, since I do not have a login or password (that is needed with PPPoE and PPPoA).... Do I set the DSL Modem for "Obtain IP Address automatically", I don't think so....
What about changing the ATM ENCAPSULATION modem from Bridged to Routed?
OMG - I feel so stupid right now....
Although I normally DREAD speaking with LEVEL 1 tech support at the ISP, I broke down and called them and actually got someone who knew exactly what I was asking... wow, how refreshing.... Anyways,
They told me "set up the ROUTER as I had expected, then do a DSL MODEM 30 second RESET to factory default" and everything will be as needed....Wow, is it really gona be THAT easy !?!?!
I guess I will find out tomorrow when I go into work.... Fingers Crossed !!!
