How to get information remotely

Specs: Windows XP
Much of the above information only helps if youre logged into the server, which in that case you would know the server name. What if youre not, none of the above suggestions will do anything in those scenarios.

So I have the ip address but no server name and need that, how can you look it up?

Open a command prompt window (ie: Start >> Run >> type cmd and hit Enter) and use the "nslookup" command.

nslookup [IP of target]

This works for hostnames as well

nslookup [hostname of target]
