Solved How to get a WIFI signal into a brick building

October 14, 2015 at 00:24:06
Specs: Windows 10
We have a solid brick disaster shelter outside of my house and from where I have my Wi-Fi modem located, I don't get much of a signal in there but I did notice that I do get a fairly decent cellphone signal in there.
My question is, is it possible for me to run an antenna up through the air vent (which is PVC) so it is above the cement roof and then have another antenna inside of the shelter, would I get a good WIFI signal inside if I did it that way?

Yep, that's possible....and probably your best solution. Point-to-point antennas can be had fairly inexpensively. I've had good luck with eNgenius products. I would suggest looking through all their outdoor products, find what will do what you need and price it out. I would then do some shopping around and comparing and go with whatever fits your needs as well as budget.

A PowerLine Adapter might be worth considering.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

A powerline adapter should work but only if the out building gets its power through the same main panel as your regular building.
Once the powerline adapter brings the ethernet into the building you can either plug in via Cat5 or add a new wireless access point to it and have Wifi there and probably all around the buildings also. You may also find a powerline adapter with a wireless access point built in.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
