Hello everybody, I was given the assignment to install around 50 new computer windows XP SP2. In our organization we have configuration manager 2007 is installed. Now i am planning to use Windows Deployment Service integrated with SCCM 2007. For this to happen i have to create an image file by .wim extension. So can anybody please.......please guide me through on how to create this file. I would so much appriate it

hi Ravey, tnxs a lot for a quick reply. I did as you told me and downloaded these two setup files WGAPluginInstall and WindowsXP KB838080-sp@-Deploy Tools-ENU. When i open the later downloaded file i found "setupmgr" and "sysprep" setup along with some other files. I double click on setupmgr then the "type of set up" windows appear providing me with 3 types of setup. Which of these setup will help me to create the (.wim) answer file. please provide me wiz full guide. Thank you so much!

michaelteshome, it looks like you got the wrong download. You should've clicked the button at the top of the page first to validate, and then to download an .img file, which you could either burn to disk or mount using cd/dvd mounting software. First you need to install MSXML 6.0, then windows aik. If you installed in the default directory, in C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\x86 you will find a program called imagex.exe You use this to create .wim files. As I have no experience of using this program, how to use it and what to put in the image is left as an exercise for you. Best of luck. HTH Ravey Dave. hey revey, i downloaded the image file (.img) file from the link u gave me last time. After i finished downloading it, it's icon was like a file with unknown software type. I download the "Irfanview" software for me to install the windows AIK program to the WDS server. But when i double click on the (.img) file it gives me this error message "unknown file format or file not found". So now for me to work on the winPE.wim file i have to install the windows AIK on my WDServer. So what is the next step to install this program. Really appriciate your help!
