How to create a mail server

Specs: Windows XP
Hi Every One!

I would like to set up a WIN XP based mail server for my company. I have got a FIX IP now on a 30 MB/sec net, a top notch computer with an apache, MySQL, PHP server on it, broadcasting My website and a FIX DOMAIN.

I only need to set up a mail server noe. I know a lot about protocols and web communication, so please rest the headwash texts and testing things...

What softwares do you recommend for My mail server to take place from My ISP mailing instead until I have time to write My own JAVA based mailer?

And what else do I have to do to get it work?

Is the exchange server so stable? I have experienced horrible things on a companies network once after an update. A few hundred mails were recalled and every scheduled task was reorganised a few years forward. Not mentioning if you do not use Outlook client for it, its like bringing heavy artillery against a squirrel... And besides, I hate windows :) But I have to live with it because of the compatibility...

Do you have any other java based mail servers?

8 years ago I used Pegasus Mails Mercury for a server project, but I never get to finish it. Do you have any experience with this server sw?
