how to connect PC & laptop using asus GX1008B 8port switch?

PC ip address 123.237.80.235
subnetmask 255.255.248.0
default gateway 123.237.80.1

laptop ip address 123.236.144.233
subnetmask 255.255.252.0
gate way 123.236.144.1

i connected modem LAN wire to port1 & PC to port2 & laptop to port 3.

now my problem is when i login to PC then in laptop i could not login,getting authentication failed.how can i login both at same time?is router needed for this?

Yes, you need a router. A switch alone will not allow you to share an Internet connection. With just a modem and switch all PCs will be trying to use the same public IP address which is not possible.

A router has a DHCP server will issue private IP address to each computer that will allow the Internet to be shared via Network Address Translation.
