How is your file sharing setup? Do you want to centeralize file sharing and printing at each location? What sharing needs to you need between your Lans and Wans?
The MacLan Software is allowing your PC's to communicate Appletalk...To route Appletalk across a Wan connection you will need to encapsulate each and ever packet.
Depending on the version of Macs you are running and your server base I would look at turning the Macs into an all IP device (LPR for Printing and AFS over IP for file sharing).
