How can I change my dynamic ip whenver I want in Win 2k??? I remember I can do that when I was using win 98 b4 with "winipcfg" and use "renew" and stuff... but I don't know how to renew it with win 2k, can someone please help? Thanks in advance. =)

From dos prompt
ipconfig/release
ipconfig/renewYou may need to add "_all" if you have more than one adapter.
ipconfig/all - shows current ip configuration with dns/gateway and adapter information.

You can certainly use IPCONFIG but the question is "how do I change it". If it's assigned dynamically and you release and renew it, you'll get the same IP back again more than likely. If it's being assigned dynamically, then by definition, you don't control what the address is. If you want to change it, youl'll gave to do it with DHCP or make it static... or putting in a new NIC.

yea, I tried with ipconfig/release/renew and I got the same ip back. Is there any way I can change it somehow? Thanks, and how would I change it with DHCP.

i take it you have a broadband connection. More than likely, you can't change it on the fly. You'd have to set your ip to static so your computer won't try to renew the lease on your dynamic ip. Eventually, your dynamic ip will expire on the dhcp server, and the dhcp server will assign it to someone else. Thus, you'd have to set it on static, and wait for days until your internet doesn't work anymore, which means you need to set it back to dynamic so you can grab a new ip.
The reason why you might have to wait for days is because the isp doesn't get a bunch of new customers every day, so there aren't that many people who will come around and grab a new ip. Even then, if the dhcp server starts from 1 and goes up, and you have a high number, the dhcp server will assign new people to the other (lower) ip addresses first.
Maybe if you call your isp, you can ask them to help you get a new ip (remove your ip from the dhcp server so when you try to ipconfig /renew, the dhcp server will assign you to a new ip).
the /renew parameter is called renew for a reason...you can't ask for a new ip, you can only try to renew your current ip.

why do you want a different one anyway?
also, i know that in linux you can flush the ip cahche, thereby getting rid of any records of your past ip. does anyone know how to do this in windows?
