how to calculate subnet mask?

I want to ask if someone knows how to figure out a subnet mask from a given ip address,because there is a methode to calculate it from the ip address, can you give me example please!!

Its called supernetting. In some cases you cannot find out the subnet mask. But if you know a bunch of hosts on a subnet you can supernet the address to figure out the subnet mask. If IP addresses are used classfully then you can assume either 255.0.0.0 (class A), 255.255.0.0 (class B), or 255.255.255.0 (class C). With Classless IPs you must use supernetting to figure it out. To answer your question as asked, you can not figure out the mask from a given IP address. In other words, if you give me and IP address, there is no way to know what the mask is.
