Hello Everybody! :)

I work in a large building with around 150 PC's. Many of them are still running win95.
Some of them have internet access and some don't. They are all connected with UTP cables. On my machine the internet is (4 some stupid reason)... blocked. One of the employees that has access to internet on his computer, only works from 8am until 12am.

So I was wondering if it's possible to change my computer's info (IP, name...) to match his computers info, and to login when he shuts down his Comp. We are both running Win95, are both in the same network, but we have different restrictions (internet, shared drives/folders) His windows has some admin restrictions (No Cpanel access, etc...), mine however are 'unlocked' so I can change whatever setting I Want.

So the question is, can I Clone his PC, so the 'network routing machine/administrator' will see no difference? Or Not..?

Manny Thanks for all Reply's :)

With Kind Regards, Dejan

No, you can't. The numbers assigned to your computer are independent of the computer name.

There is a SID that matches your hardware, among other things, and in order to "clone" his machine, you'd have to clone his hardware, including the h/d.

If your administrator of the network will not give you access, you're basically out of luck.

Because at work, with that many PC's I would imagine you are going thru a server and therefore have to be authorized by that server, thus you need that info.

I could be wrong though.

Depends on how the network administrator is restricting access. But regardless, changing IP's like that should not be done. Screwing around with your machine without permission is often grounds for termination from a company.
