Routers route the message to the destination, because you usually do not have direct link to destination point. Your home router is to translate external network addressing to your local
hubs simply hardware ring (loop) allowing Ethernet signals; connecting to the hub is simply putting your point (non contact) on the loop
modem translates 0/1 combinations in pure tones as phone line will lose simple signal over the distance
servers different types; usually you have to establish connection with the server (by agreement) and then the server will respond to your requests( the type of request depends on the server type)
