What type of signal are you referring to?

Generally speaking, data on a LAN originates at a PC or server and is tranferred along the transmission media (be it copper, fibre optic or wireless) to the destination.

The best way to learn about it is to do a google search on the OSI model.

Here's one link that will help.

You have to separate hardware from software. Signals on the wire is hardware. They are generated by sending low voltage electrical charges thru copper wire.

You don't have a lan until you can talk thru software to hardware to hardware to software to the other person. Its the OSI model. People are application. Hardware is physical [+ layers 2/3 depending on hardware]

Give a person a fish you feed them for a day.
Ask a person to internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.
