I would like to know if I can setup a network where one computer directly connects to the modem, than that computer hosts the connection to a hub than connect the hub to a wireless router. Or if thats not possible can I host the connection straight to the wireless router? If I can do one of these, how do I set it up?

Depends on the router you are using. If we knew the model of router you are using a definitive answer could be given.

Can the modem plug directly into the router or does the router even have its own modem. How many ports does the router have?

If either of the above is true then the router can probably host both computer and you probably don't even need the hub.

If you're using a hub and not a router your host PC will need 2 NIC's. One for the internet (external) and one for the LAN (internal). You'll want to enable ICS on the external NIC and then any client machines will need to be in the same IP range as the internal NIC which will be given an IP address automatically by ICS.

Additionally, the router downstream will create its own subnet that won't talk to the PCs upstream very well unless you disable its DHCP Server, turning it into a dumb switch. You're better off connecting the router to the modem, ditching the hub, and running your PCs as clients off the router.

I don't want to be behind the router because I get conncetion drops, and I have givin up on fixing it, trust me its hopeless. so I wanna set it up this way, I have done it successfully, but now all of the sudden the wireless router I hooked up stopped working so the 2 comps that are wired work but the wireless won't I don't know why it stopped working. the hub is a linksys EFAH05W and the wireless router is a SMC I forget the model I'll post it later, I also have a linksys BEFSR41 v2 but I don't need that in the network anymore, although, the way I originally got it to work was from the hub, to the linksys router, to the wireless router. so idunno, what do you guys think?
