Solved How do I set up a router and modem?

Specs: Windows Vista, 2GB
Hi, some of my friends are moving into a new apartment together and want me to set up their network, but they don't have a base computer that is constantly plugged into the router and modem. They all just have laptops. Is it possible to set up a network like that, or do you need to have one computer plugged into the modem, like a desktop? All of the laptops have internet cards, I'm not sure what type. How would I set this up? They do not currently have a router but when they get one I assume it will be a G. I am not sure if they already have a modem. So can someone tell me what I need to do to set this up? Thanks in advance.

Well depending on the connection provided by the ISP you need either a Wireless Router or a Combined Modem/Router.

The laptops need to be wireless enabled.

I don't know the connection but I know we are using a modem and a router separate, just how would I set it up if there is no computer constantly plugged into the modem?

✔ Best Answer
Connect one of the Laptops via network cable just for configuration of the wireless router.
After finishing the configuration, you can disconnect the lan cable.
You have to configure all Laptops, to connect to the router wirelessly.

Alright thanks, I will try that. I won't be able to say whether it worked for a while though; I won't be setting it up for another few weeks.
