Hey guys
Rogers (my ISP) are a bunch of b---tards. Anyway, i've been having a hard time finding out were to learn how to release my ip address and get a new one. I currently am on a network and am using a hub the name on it says SmartLink, if that helps. I havn't been able to get my email or work it for the past two weeks and im getting so unbelievably frustrated. Can you please help me? I've read goto dos and type in release ip and renew ip, but will that work for me if im on a hub?
sincerely
Sloth

you release and renew IP addresses from a command line within windows, a hub has nothing to do with this (if it is a hub and not a router). anyway, the command for win9x is :winipcfg /all and NT based OS's are:ipconfig /all to renew/release, substitute the wrods for all. if you ahve a router that supplies your IP then you'll need to do it there.

Well im not sure what i have
it takes the cable modem and directs the internet to my room and to my dads compter, and we pay an extra fee every motnh to rogers so i can have an ip i believe. I didn't mention it but im running win Xp, so please let me know what to do with what i currently have, im actually kind of comfused.

As the other guy said:
[START] ---> [RUN] --- enter "cmd"
this will bring up a dos box. then type
"ipconfig/all" to show the info you have
"ipconfig/release" to let the IP ya have go.
"ipconfig/renew" to get a new IP.Tell you dad to get a Linksys router and
have a 13 old hook it up for you guys. you
wont have to pay for the extra IP and you
can have up to 253 systems on the one
router (with more switches). If you have DSL
and more than one IP they probably gave
you a router for about $400 other wise if
it is a hub then it doesnt matter it is
just a device to slpit signals will not
affect the IP. Otherwise look at it very
closly and try to find some more info and search
on the web for what you have, This will aid
in helping you.

in all honesty, alot of times, in order to get a new IP, you have to actually have your ISP do it. You can release/renew all ya want, but if they want you to have the same IP, you're gonna have it. Sometimes if you power of the modem for an extended period of time, but usually they re-lease the ip's on a given time, like every week, month, 2 months, etc. So, call the B@STARDS LOL.
Cheers,
William
