How do I connect my PC & Laptop?

Hi
I am trying to connect my Laptop & PC as my laptop needs to be reinstalled.
My PC is on Windows XP (Emachines) and the Laptop is on Windows Vista (HP).
I am totally confused as to how & what I should be doing.
I have a wireless router & both connect to the router for the internet.
If someone could give me step by step advise that would be fantastic.

I need to put all the information from the laptop on to the PC otherwise I will loose it.

Most would get themselves a usb stick and xfer the data that way.
Especially if the laptop is infected or corrupted.
Otherwise get a crossover cable and connect the two nic ports. Then go to Help and Support and lookup Networking Wizard. Launch the wizard and follow the instructions.

don't think there is anything wrong with the laptop. Files are too big for a USB stick. I will look for advise else where.

Files too big for usb? I have a 4gig stick in my hand right now. How big of files are we talking here?
Nothing wrong with the laptop then why are you reinstalling?

I have been getting a blue dump screen for a few months now.
