How do i configure Windows Server 2003?

Specs: Windows XP
I have windows server 2003 i'm using a laptop and want to make it a domain controller i'm way behind the power curve of knowledge and i need help,

I need:
The server to be a DC
Active Directory for user and account management
and needs to be IA compliant this part i can handle with my resources but advice would help

It is best to get one of the MSCE training books if you wish to learn this stuff correctly.

Thank you for your response however, i do understand learning the material is the obvious logical path which i should travel however time restraints make that a impossible path, dcpromo is a step i have attempted, and i don't want to waste anyones time but a general outline of things i should be looking at and looking for would be great
