how can I extend range of wifi in my house?

Hi, I have a Motorola modem (Road Runner) then a D-Link VWR wireless router (in that order). WiFi doesn't cover the entire house though, and I'd like to extend the range of wifi in the house. Skipping discussions of security for now, how might I ensure that we can get connected all over the house? Thanks in advance.
