I am moving into a new house that has a wired netwrok with cat-5 to all rooms from a USTec hub in the master closet. I would like to keep add a wireless router to this setup. Can I just plug it into one of the ports in a room or do I need to install the router in a different location in the network? Thanks!
Why don't you just replace the hub with your wireless router, assuming that you have ports on the wireless router, routers/switches are much better than hubs.
I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.
I would be somewhat surprised if it didn't, depending on what type of wireless router it is, I know that most will be picked up a 100 meters or more from a location. If not, yes you could connect it coming off of the hub to another room in the house and it should work. As long as it's WAN port isn't getting an IP on the same subnet as it is passing out on the LAN side of it. If that makes sense the way that I stated it.

I would assume that USTec hub acts as router as well, then it make sense for you to connect wireless router to this "hub". In this case, you can just configure that wireless router as access point only to expand your wired network with wireless access.
