Okay,

I'll try and explain this as simply as possible and hopefully someone will be able to answer straight away. Here's the setup:

Two PCs in a workgroup:
PC1 192.168.0.2
PC2 192.168.0.3

Router 192.168.0.1 (internet access)

Server has two network connections:
1) 192.168.0.100
2) 192.168.16.2

Server acts as a domain controller for domain on 192.168.16.x network with another two PCs:
PC3 192.168.16.11
PC4 192.168.16.12

So, the problem is the two workgroup PCs can't access the two domain PCs. From PC1 i can ping 192.168.0.100 successfully but not 192.168.16.2. However, the domain PCs can access the two workgroup PCs no problem. From PC3 I can ping 192.168.0.2 successfully. I checked RRAS on server and the 192.168.16.2 connection doesn't have a default gateway set which i thought might be the problem however whenever I tried setting it to 192.168.16.2 or 127.0.0.1 the two PCs on the 192.168.16.x network couldn't access the internet. Anybody any ideas please?

You would have to explain your setup more , you are using 2 completely different subnet ranges . You don't indicate what type of router you are using to route between these subnets , if you just have a small home router this won't route between the subnets . Also make sure you don't have FW's turned on the pc's or set them up to allow connections to your other pc's.

127.0.0.1 is the tcp/ip loopback address. That is loopback as in go nowhere else.

You can't set a gateway that is in a different subnet than the subnet the pc is on.

For hosts in differnet subnets to communicate you have to have a router.

You don't mention topology i.e. switches. I am assuming you have the server and the two domain pcs hanging off the internet router.

Question is do you have a hub/switch connected to the 2nd servers nic with the two workgroup pcs?

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

hi,

sorry, the server and two workgroup pcs are connected to the router, there is a switch connected to the second nic of the server which the two domain pcs are connected to.

also, as far as i can see the server is routing between the two subnets as nic 1 is connected to the router with 192.168.0.100 and nic 2 is connected to the switch for the domain pcs with 192.168.16.2
