Hi,
I gave my old desktop to my cousin and she lives in a trailer park where they have wireless satellite I think. Any how she bought a router Belkin that just goes in one of the usb ports. we downloaded the cd that came with it and it shows on her computer. But it does not detect a signal. What else may she need to get online ? does she have to have her home hooked up to the satellite for it to work ? Or a phone line ? She does not have satellite to her tv nor a phone line so is that necessary to hook her up to the wireless connection the park has ? They gave her the name and password but yet we cant get it to connect. It does not show any available connections. Thank you Sue

Some more expert guy may give you better clue but I guess you need to plug in a wireless card into your desktop since the router performs other functions as LAN connection and internet gateway, but it doen't enable a wireless connection to Internet. Usually a wireless able router uses the wireless to enable W(ireless)LAN only.
So she needs to buy a wireless card that goes inside the computer you are saying ?
Yes, just that. she needs to add a wireless card then with the password got she can enable desktop internet wireless connection just as laptops with builtin wi-fi card act.
No need for wired telephone line at all. Think how mobile laptops work.
Try to return the router since it is the wrong device for the job, and swap for either a PCI wireless network card or a USB wireless network card. What to get depends on whether you have an available PCI slot and whether you are ok with opening up the case to install it. Not a difficult job but not everyone is prepared to do that.
