OS: XP Home / Vista
CPU/Ram: P4 / 1GB
Product: DELL
Comment:

My DELL P4 Desktop running XP Home (SP2) is connected to a DSL modem and the Wireless D-Link DIR-625 RangeBooster Router (N) thru the 3 Com Etherlink XL 10/100 PCI card inside the Desktop. In another room I have an Acer Dual Core Laptop running Vista Home Premium with build-in Wireless. My Printer / Scanner is connected on the DELL and Files / Printer sharing is turned on. On the DELL Network Connection window I have an Internet Gateway Wireless connection plus a LAN or High Speed Internet connection. On Laptop Network Connection window I can see the DELL Desktop and the D-Link Router. On both machines the Internet works fine. On the Laptop I can access the DELL drives but not the printer and that is my 1st problem. I have not been able to access the Laptop from DELL and this is my 2nd problem. Any help? Thank you.

For you 1st problem, I believe you didn't make your printer to share. I can't remember the exact steps. Goto control panel/printer setup, right click on the printer you want to share. Follow the on screen instruction to share the printer.

For your 2nd problem, I believe you want to use remote desktop if you want to use the applications on the other computer. If you just want to view the folders/files on the other computer, just right click on it and then follow the on screen instruction.

Hi, everyone ^_^

make sure your PC are on the same workgroup.

try this for your laptop with windows vista...

"Computers running Windows XP that cannot be detected probably do not have the Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) protocol installed on the machine. You can download the Link Layer Topology Discovery Responder from the Microsoft website here to install on Windows XP PCs."

I found the problem. My XP had no networking components installed. I went to the control panel, Add/remove programs, Change or remove programs and installed the XP networking programs. Now all is fine. Thank you
