Hi all
I have 2 computers and cable internet.I'm trying to connect both computers using network cards and a cross overcable. I've had this set-up using another computer and it worked great but now I have this new machine I don't know how to set network connections, I can't copy anything from this machine because it was formatted a few weeks ago. Can anyone help please.

Regards Steve

Steve,

I'd go buy a router. After rebates your talking like $19.99-$29.99.
If that's not a solution then plug the two computers together and when going through the Network Setup Wizard, select 'Connect directly to another computer', then follow the rest of the wizard.
Windows has a protocol called SAP (Service Addressing Protocol) which will assign the two computers an IP in the 169.254.x.x
But for what it's worth, you should really get a router. They're all kinds of cheap and will enable network growth {YAY!!!}

hope it helps...

hello steve.

I would suggest just as rnamk suggested.....just buy a router...then connect a crossover cable from every PC to the router.

beside..you have to follow the "set up home or small office" wizard ( in case you are using windows XP).. and then just apply the configurations to detect everything automatically........

after that everything must work perfectly.

thanks
