Comment:
I have a work laptop with win XP Pro on it, I want to network it so I can print through my home desktop printer.
The laptop is on a Domain server name "States" but my home XP Home only has a Workgroup "Hogwarts".
How can I connect the laptop to print?

What ever you do do NOT unjoin your work pc from the domain to the workgroup. You won't be a happy camper when you go to your IT dept to get it set back to the domain.

There is a product called netswitcher you might want to check out.

Otherwise if you name your local workgroup the same as the domain name, "states" in this case, you can usually access your local lan and printing just fine from your work laptop.

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

1. You have to create a user on your home computer that corresponds to the logon ID you use to logon to the laptop. Passwords don't necessarily have to match.

2) Make sure the printer is a shared resource on the home computer

3) Add a printer to your laptop either by using the network neighborhood browser and double-clicking on the shared printer or using the add printer wizard connecting to \\home_computer_name\printer_name. You will be prompted for the password of the user on the home computer that you just created in step 1.

File and Printer sharing must be enabled on the home computer for this to work.

Life's more painless for the brainless.
