I am trying to build a home network. I have a wired router and two computers. The router will live upstairs next to one computer; I have run the wire from the second floor down to the unfinished basement and over to the area on the first first floor where the second computer is located.
I am using quality blue network cable. I have used a RJ45 crimper to install ends on either end of the network cable. I cannot get the router to recognize the computer on the first floor. The computer on the second floor is fine. I unhooked the CPU on the first floor and connected it to the router using a short 6' cable that I created from the remnant's of the same cable. Then, the router recognizes that computer.
I have triple checked to ensure the wires are in the correct order. I have check and there are no tears or kinks in the wiring running through the house.
Anybody have any idea what else I might look for? The total length of the wire is less than 80'. I have built networks at 150' with no problems in the past.
