I have 2 XP PC's on a home network via a Linksys router with DSL service. Both PC's can access DSL and see each others icon with a Network prompt. The PC with SP 2 installed responds with "access denied when trying to access the other PC's shared disk. The second PC without SP 2 installed can see and access the other PC's shared disk. HELP ?????

Are one of the machines XP pro? Were you able to get to the other PC before install of SP2? Start with that and we can help you.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I was able to access each computer's files from the other before installing SP2 on one of the PC's. Yes, one PC is running XP home and the other XP Pro. I can not access the XP Pro PC with the one running XP Home with SP2 installed.

I think you should first start with the windows firewall. Disable it on both PC's. Then ensure simple file sharing is enabled, unless for some reason you don't want simple file sharing enabled. I know that installing SP2 will enable a host of protective features in xp. The simple file sharing setting is located in FolderOptions>view at the very bottom. See if this helps.

Hi Nick Both firewalls are disabled and both "C" drives are shared with write priveledges. I even tried restoring the PC with SP2 to an earlier date but it will not let me because I do not have a missing file "TRACYTL.EXE" so I gave up on that idea. This is very perplexing. Appreciate your help.
