Stupid question, but I moved into a house that has cat53 cabled in every room, which goes into the basement. In the basement, there is a junction box, but the cat5e was never cabled at the junction box (no connectors attached to the other end of the cable. I pulled off the wall plates in each room to see how they were connected, and from left to right the twisted pair are green, white/green, white/orange, white/blue, blue, orange, brown, white/brown. I thought this just needed to be straight through, so I did the same on connectors in the basement, which will connect to a hub (eventually). Just to test before I did all cables, I tested with the first one, and I am not getting any connection. I have made crossover and regular patch cables in the past, so I know I did that hardware portion correct, but since the pin out at the wall is not a standard patch pin out (that I am aware of), I am wondering if I need to not make the connections in the basement identical. Do I need to swap the order out some other way to get this to work, or is something else wrong with my setup. Just trying to save a few bucks by not having comcast come out to do it for me. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Shawn |
