High speed internet

Everytime I tried to load high speed internet on my computer, it give me an error message, something about an NIC not installed. I've had this computer since 2000 and have had dial up on it before.

You didn't answer the question. Do you have a network card installed in your computer? If so, have you connected the ethernet cable to it and to your modem when prompted?
