hi there
i have comcast cable. im using d-link dcm-202 cable modem and linkssys wireless -g router which connects 4 other computers to share internet. is any program or something to make internet speed on each computer the same? because for example when 2 computers are downloading something or playing games my internet speed is very low. I just wanna make this speed equal all the time on each PC. thanks

Basically this is how it works (and there isnt much you can do about it) You have 1 line from comcast that delivers a certain bandwidth for your use, say 6Mb/s. If you have 2 computers running and using the internet (in an optimal situation) each computer gets 3Mb/s. Now in all reality it doesn't work that way for a bunch of numerous reasons. But the fact that the computers have to share this 1 line is your limitation. The more computers you add to your network, the slower each computers internet connection will be.
Another very similar example would be setting up sprinkler systems outside in your lawn. You only have a certain water pressure across your lines. The more sprinklers you add to your system, the lower the water pressure to each sprinkler.
Hope that helps and answers your question.

Ah, bandwith throttling...
You might be able to specify the max allowed bandwith in the linksys router for individual LAN IP addresses. I'd make sure you have the latest firmware first though. If not, there are quite a bit of applications out there that will let you modify your system to restrict your bandwidth.

I think what you are looking for is called Bandwidth Shaping, there may be a Linux Distro you could flash into the router or perhaps if you want something to tinker with dig out an older computer put a couple of nics in it and create a nice router/firewall/bandwith controller all for little or no money at all...
Keep the old stuff running
