Hi Guy's

I need to know if I can hide the workgroup of a PC so it does not show up on the network window of other PC's on the network.
I have a notebook that I use at different client locations that runs scans and must be hidden from the general users, and I don't want to keep changing the workgroup to match what's on the clients network. At the moment I join the client's workgroup and then hide the notebook within the workgroup using "net config server" but I would just like to plug in and run the scans being hidden without changes to the config as this sometimes buggers up settings on some of the programs I use.

Can anybody help?

A person that can out Google/Webcrawler me! This does not happen often...

Thank you,

I got excited, I tried it, looked promising, but sorry to say no cigar, (Reminds me of a date I had once!)
It does not show me on the network, but alas I can’t see other workgroups either….. It seems to shut the workgroup down and not just hide it as I need it too…

Next Lady for a shave…. :-)

You could just setup your firewall to block it. I think they are ports 137,138 and 139. The problem is this will be the same as turning it off so I think you can block just the data gram on port 128 only. I have not tested this so let me know how it works.

Hi ace,

I have tried this with no sucess, even tried setting as outgoing only, but means I can't recieve the info... Lovely catch 22.

I'm not sure it can be done as the workgroup has always been a limiting factor in any network.

Please keep trying, would like to get this one done....
