My cable isp charges an extra $20/month if they detect that I am using a router. Spoke to other customers and they say that it's true -- they can detect local ip's like 192.xx and will kick you off. Is there a way to hide the fact that I am using a router from my isp? (Linksys wireless 11mb)

change the default private IP to another private subnet i think the other is 10.xxx or something like this Also, most routers can clone the MAC addresses..try using the MAC of one of your computer's NICs..this works well for me

This page may be worth a look; it tells how ISPs can (try to) detect multiple computers behind a router. Check your company's terms of service. I'd sure as heck use a router/firewall if I had a high-speed connection!
