hello, I was wondering, is there a way to hide theIP address, so that whatever page I'm surfing doesnt see it thru a javascript or something, or maybe shows a fake one? I do not want the IP address of my computer connection broadcasting to the world each time Im online. I'm on broadband, thats why is a problem, in dialup as ffar as i know IPs change but not with broadband

thanks in advanced

As Sturt wrote in this THREAD:

The only way to disguise your IP address is to go through a proxy server then only the proxy server will have you IP address.

Please rephase what you meant by that. Thanks.

Or to put it another way, If you don't send your IP address, how is the other end going to know where to send the requested page back to.

You request a page, the server needs a return address. Part of TCP/IP

I meant that as far as i know, maybe Im wrong, when on dialup, a different IP address is given each time the computer dials out and connects, whereas since broadband, adsl and cable, are always on they have the same IP

So, what difference does it make. An address is an address whether it permanent or temporary. It can still be traced back you you in either case. If it's hackers you are worried about, read the post highlighted by XpUser.

On broadband, while you do often get the same IP address back, it not guaranteed unless you have a static IP.

I agree with Stuart. Whether you use dialup or broadband (cable & DSL) there's no difference how you get the IP address.
