I have two freshly installed systems: one with Win2k (as Host PC) and the other with Win98SE (as the Client). Both NICs are installed, and are connected using crossover cable.
I need to get these two talking TCP/IP, but it did not happen automatically... They both are listed in eachothers' Network neighborhood but if you click on them, access is denied. From the client to the host, I am required to enter a password (none that I can think of work). From the host to the client, I just get an error message: "\\Client\C is not accesssible. The path can not be found."
The kicker is that if I install NetBUI on both of them, the network works fine. But I need to have TCP/IP going (to share an Internet connection).
I am very knowledgeable when it comes to Win98 but the Win2K OS is new to me.
Your help is much appreciated!
TIA,
-Marc

On your windows 2000 machine you need to add a username which is the same as the one in which the windows 98 machine logs on as and give him access to all the features he needs, usually just a standard user is required. As for TCP/IP they are just protocols in the network neighbourhood and in my experiences have been installed when i have installed the network, the only problem i have had is that you have to set the win2k machine as a gateway on the win98 machine. If you require more info contact me.
