Comment:

I recently purchased an ORiNOCO ISA
Adapter and Silver card for my desktop
PIII PC. I already have two other desktop
machines talking to the transceiver and
sharing a single IP address via a DSL
modem using DHCP and NAT with no
problems.

I've tried every conceivable combination of
settings (except the right one, obviously),
with no luck. I even brought my Compaq
laptop home from work and put the
Silver card in it; it worked GREAT! I tried
duplicating the settings on the
desktop, and still had no luck. My latest
attempt at a solution involved
updating the desktop machine to
Windows ME, but that of course didn't
help
either.

In a nutshell, my tcp/ip settings for the PC
are:

IP = dynamic IP using DHCP
Gateway = IP address of the transceiver
DNS = blank (though I have also tried it
with the DNS info supplied by my
ISP)

Additionally, WEP encryption is turned on
at the transceiver, and is
enabled on the PC as well. The
ORiNOCO client reports a strong signal
between the client and the transceiver.
Note that I can ping the IP addresses of
the other computers, the transceiver, and
the DNS servers of my ISP just fine. I've
tried releasing the IPs using winipcfg, but
it
doesn't seem to help. But when I try to fire
up a web browser, I get a DNS error.

If there's anyone out there who can help,
I'd sure appreciate it.

Do you have phonefree?
I can probably help you-out!
just went throw the same problems with my home-network.
Even if you dont have a modem in the guest computer, you have to go to control panel-setings-add and remove programs and go to telephony and internet, the two telephone icons and install all the components for the telephony just like if you had a modem.
remove your network card driver and turn-off the machine, you have to have your windos 98 disk in the D:drive. re-install your NIC and do the settings for TCP-IP and File and printing sharing again. PCI cards work better at this point.
after these you may see at the properties on your network icon that is full with difrent tipe of drivers and options like vpp, pptp and others, that is all it takes.
