What does a DHCP do for you?
Also would you rather split DSL through a switch or a hub?

Dhcp stands for dynamic host configuration protocol.
It automatically configures yours ip for you. either your isp is static or dynamic ip. static means you always have the same ip and dynamic is it changes (ussually one time a day) ussually broadbands are dynamic.
and for the second question. I would rather get a router because the dsl goes to the router not to one of the computers .
if you had a hub or a switch. one of ur computers would have to act as a server and one would always have to be on so the other one could work

The last time I hooked up a BellSouth DSL, it was DHCP for the IP address, and static DNS using public IP DNS servers assigned by the ISP.
They use a router to hand out private IP's unless you up for the static IP address, then they will give you an actual public IP.
My friend was pressured to buy an upgrade, and opt for the firewall etc.,which he didn't do. They didn't tell him that he would be behind a NAT firewall either way. Sneaky rascals
