Hi all. This is a strange one...well it is for me but im new to networking...very new!

We have an actiontec wireless router connected to our cable modem and are trying to connect all the computers in the house to it. So far we have 2 set up, the installations went smoothly and work very well.
The problem came when we went on to the third pc. This is a brand new pc running win xp home.

The problem is this: when we connected the usb adapter for the wlan it seemed to set up fine however there is no actual connection. When i run ipconfig there is either no ip address or if there is its not a 196.128 etc address. No DHCP server address, no subnet or the subnet is just 255.255.0.0 (I'm a little lost with this terminology!)
When i click on available networks the wlan shows as available however the WEP is disabled and no matter how much i try and enable it... it just doesnt!
At first i thought it may be to do with admin privileges but we have those so that wouldnt appear to be it.

The pc did come with Norton anti-virus which included a firewall, i've since disabled this and tried again with the same results. It seems i cant get the pc to access the network....it sends packets out but doesnt get them back.

Any ideas?? Please be specific if you need extra info as it may take me a while to actually find it! :) Any help here would be very much appreciated coz i'm tearing my hair out and its too soon for me to go bald!!! :)

Right click LAN connection in In Network Connections, click Advanced, make sure firewall is disabled. If it's already disabled. Try setting up the XP computer first make sure firewall is disabled then set up the other systems. by the way to permanently disable the firewall go to admin tools/services, you'll find internet connection firewall -- disable it since you'll never use it in your configuration.
