I'm writing because I find myself in troubles. I was asked to connect a DOS–only PC to a peer to peer Microsoft LAN. I’ve installed on the DOS-PC the Microsoft Client 3.0 and then the DOS–based Microsoft Network Server (the WG1049.exe file downloaded from the Microsoft FPT-server ftp.microsoft.com) following the guidelines I’ve found in articles “Connecting from DOS–system using TCP/IP” and “DOS–based Microsoft Network Server” on the www.wown.com web site. I’ve also made the DOS-PC hard disk a shared resource using the NET SHARE command. Unfortunately, while the DOS-PC can access to the shared resources on the other systems connected to the network, the contrary doesn’t occur. Opening “Local Computer” on anyone of the Windows 2000 PCs connected to the LAN , the icon of the DOS-PC is displayed among the others, but, when I double-click on it, the following error message appears:
“THE SPECIFIED SERVER CANNOT EXECUTE THE REQUESTED OPERATION”
The same message appears if I try to access to the DOS-PC from the DOS-command line. I’ve been thinking long upon the matter but I haven’t realized yet where I’m doing wrong. So could anyone please help me to solve my problem?
