Hi

I am a sixth form student and over the last few weeks we have been getting some funny errors poping up. Firstly, while typing in MS word by it self all of a sudden 3/4 of the work will turn to squares. Or the format of the document will change. No 2, whatever we are doing and then we save it says "cannot save the document" then ok then it exits and we lose all our work. Then we cannot save to any drive not even c:. No 3, sometimes the programme we are using will just perform a illegal operation.

How do we solve this problem?

Any help would be greatful

well the illegal operation isnt surprising. Are you using Windows 98? If I were you, first try to uninstall word/office then reinstall. If that doesnt work then maybe try to run norton or something to look for problems, but If you can, the absolutly best way to fix this without all the hassle is to just backup everything and do a complete format and reinstall everything. This may seem to be a problem, but I actually do this probably every 4 months or so just to fix any and every problem. And when you do this(if you) install Windows 2000 Pro. This is the most reliable of microsofts os's. If you want, you can try to upgrade to win2k, but i would wipe so you can start fresh and use the NTFS file system instede of FAT32.

Good Luck

btw, next time post to the board that is relivant to your problem.

??? spoken like a true phone support person there... I cant count how many people I have come in the door and say "yeah I was on the phone with (company) trying to fix the problem, and they had me do a restore." "Did i lose all my data." "They had me restore because I had a virus."

This problem sounds like pos virii... What type of anti virus software do you have there?
Does this happen on more then one PC? (if so network virus.)
