I've purchased a PIV 1.7G box for a server. I also purchased 3 identical 30G drives. I would like to configure a Raid 5 configuration for fault tolerance. I am unsure how to configure the hard disk setup. Any help or resources would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Are you using hardware or software control? What OS?

I'm not sure which to use. What would you recommend. I haven't purchased anything except the drives and box. I was going to be using Small Business Server 2000 as the OS.

Are these SCSI drives? Assuming so...

You need a RAID controller to do it properly. Probably Adaptec is the likely candidate.

I don't know if SBS 2000 can support Raid 5 in software, I thought it was only RAID 1. But even if it does, software is not the answer if your data is that important!

SBS can only support RAID 1. If you want RAID 5 you need a server setup like Win 2000 Server. Actually with Windows 200 Server it will basically walk you through RAID setup.

The fact as to which controller is the best? I was fortunate enought to set up a SQL Server here at work and I use the Default Software controller that comes with windows. I support over 300 client machines and they all access the information on that server with no problem.

The setup on my SQL server is RAID 5. IF you need help setting that up, let me know.
