Brand new fresh OS install

Cannot seem to get an assigned IP for my onboard LAN?
Not from my router or straight from my cable modem?

It will get the windows IP 169.254.xx.xxx
I can assign an IP 192.168.1.133 but I can't see it in my router and I cannot ping it from another pc on the network.

Plugged very same lan cable into laptop and it received ip no problem from router.

PC has been on the router before and has never had any problems.

Tried direct cable connection to another pc.
with 169.254.xxx.xxx.
Neither pc can ping each other.
I can ping 127.0.0.1 ok.

Using same cd I always use with same inputs.
I am doing nothing different to what I always do but this time cannot get assigned IP.

So my nic is nacked or there's some thing wrong with xp side of things?
I cannot see past my nic being defective somehow?
Can I test my nic for 'defects' ?

Tried both ways.
Lan drivers only and Full chipset drivers.

I did just reflash a bios because I was resetting bios to defaults when the power went off :(

I'll try flashing again,who knows.....?

p.s
This is for my nf7-s not pc in sig

I found an old usb wireless stick, installed drivers for it and it got IP no problem.

So it seems LAN adapter is defunct.
