|If it were me, I'd make sure the configuration on the extender was set to factory defaults by resetting it according to the manual. Then I would try to connect directly from a computer to it's management interface. If you're unable to, it would suggest your new device is "bad out of the box" (not an unusual happening) and I would take it back to wherever I purchased it and I would exchange it for a different one.|
While I haven't worked with much netgear equipment, I've never found it necessary to install any propriatary software to configure a router or access point.
